The Salvation Army Preps for School to Begin

Aug 18, 2023 | by The Salvation Army

As children and adolescents returned to school this August, The Salvation Army of North Texas supported families across the region to alleviate the costs associated with excelling in — and out — of the classroom. We wrapped our summer day camps, distributed backpacks filled with essential school supplies, and began preparing for our structured after-school programs.

Year-round, The Salvation Army operates out-of-schooltime programming to enable youth to reach their full potential. These safe and structured services go beyond helping with homework — they holistically enrich the lives of the next generation by focusing on art, music, STEM, martial arts, sports, and more.

For example, select locations offer skills-building in workforce readiness, behavioral engagement, social and communication habits, life and interpersonal character development, leadership, and digital literacy. From computer labs to fitness zones, our facilities are equipped with resources and opportunities some communities in North Texas would otherwise be without access to.

A one-of-its-kind partnership The Salvation Army has had for more than 50 years represents two of the largest and most trusted national nonprofits in the world joining forces to empower the future of our region: The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club.

Though similar to Boys & Girls Club organizations, The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs are uniquely their own. Founded to create safe places that embody Christian values, these programs help young people learn the tools to thrive academically, become self-sufficient adults, and lead productive lives.

Our youth programs span North Texas to Irving, Plano, Waxahachie, Pleasant Grove, Arlington, Fort Worth, Oak Cliff, and Garland. Each location promotes learning that enables all to be productive, caring, responsible citizens — efforts that are critical to breaking the poverty cycle and helping our region become stronger and more resilient.
